Flower girls are known to have been in weddings since long time ago. Even if we have been through changing times of fashion and seen changes in the roles of members of conventional wedding ceremonies, the role of flower girls remains consistent in weddings. Beautiful flower girl dresses changed throughout history and will carry on evolving as time goes on. Below herewith we take a short passage back in time to the beginning of flower girl dresses:

The first flower girl ever recorded in history dated back to the ancient Roman times. Back that time, these lovely young girls hold sheaths of wheat and herbs. This bounty was related with blessings of prosperity and fertility. Then, in the medieval times, the flower girls carried garlic. This is mainly due to the Black Plague in Europe. Garlic was carried not only to ward off evil spirits, but also because of its antibacterial nature. The garments worn by the follower girls were the same as that of the bride.

It was in the Victorian era that the dresses began to look as they do today. Dresses were generally made of white or ivory muslin with a colored ribbon sash. As with the need to seek affordable wedding gowns, these infants or children flower girl dresses were rather more practical and less formal than what it is today. Flower girls signify beauty, innocence and wishes for healthy children.

The role of flower girls and beautiful flower girl dresses change throughout history and will continue so in the future. The only thing that will remain constant would be they will always be the sweet little princesses who are fun loving and joyful.
